1 once soft 4ply wool in Green
1 once soft 4ply wool in White
One pair of Knitting Needles No. 8/4.00 mm/US 6
Crochet Hook 3.00mm
2 yards narrow satin ribbon
Doll (cut across legs and part of body)
Width 7 inches; depth 7 inches
Cast on stitches in multiples of 3.
Row 1: Wool over needle, slip 1 inserting needle as though to purl, knit 2 together, and repeat to end of row.
Row 2: Over, slip 1 as though to purl, knit together the next stitch and the third which lies over it, and repeat to end of row.
Repeat 2nd row for length required.
Cast on 42 stitches in green wool and knit 72 rows in polka dot stitch and cast off tightly.
In white wool pick up cast off stitches and knit in garter stitch for 60 rows and cast off.
Knit another piece the same. This forms petticoat lining. Double each piece and sew up the sides.
Frills: **Crochet 100 chains in white and make one along it of one treble, one chain to end.
Next row: *2 treble in chain, 1 double crochet in treble, repeat from * to end of row.
Repeat from ** for back.
Sew these frill pieces around each polka knitted piece.
This forms dress.
Cover lower end of body with green crochet in form of little round bag and fix firmly round the waist and hold on with little crochet braces of green and white.
Crochet bonnet in green and edge with white.
Chain 3. Join into ring. Work 12 trebles into ring.
Round 2: Work twice into every second stitch, putting hook through back loop only.
Round 3: Work twice into every second stitch, putting hook through back loop only.
Round 4: Work twice into every third stitch, putting hook through back loop only.
Round 5: Work twice into every fifth stitch, putting hook through back loop only.
Row 6: No increase. Slip-stitch along 12 trebles at back of hat.
Row 7: 1 treble, 1 chain, again having 12 slip-stitches at back.
Row 8: 2 trebles into chain, 1 treble on treble, 12 slip-stitches again at back.
Row 9: 1 treble into each treble.
With white wool work 2 trebles, 1 d.c. along front of Hat.
Weave ribbon through trebles and leave ends to tie. Lace the ribbon through the space in white frill and also round the bonnet. Place lappet of soft white wool round face of bonnet for hair.
