Free Vintage Knitting Pattern For Doll Set

Part 2: Dolls Dress, Panties and Stole Outfit

In 3 sizes: 6-8 inches, 10-12 inches and 14-16 inches

OUTFIT FOR 6-8 INCH DOLLS

MATERIALS

½ ounce 3 ply baby wool

One pair knitting needles No 11/3.00mm/US 3

One pair knitting needles No 12/2.75mm/US 2

2 doll buttons

Short piece of shirring or bead elastic for waist of panties

One crochet hook No 15/2.00mm is close

TENSION

8 stitches to one inch, working in stocking stitch on No 11 needles

DRESS (with full circular skirt)

BACK

Cast on 61 stitches thumb method, and knit 2 rows.

Row 3: KI2, *P1, K11, repeat from *to last stitch. K1.

Row 4: *K1, P11, repeat from * to last stitch, K1.

Row 5: K1, *slip 1, K1, psso, K9, P1, repeat from * ending last repeat, K1.

Row 6: *K1, P10, repeat from * to last stitch. K1.

Row 7: K1, *K8. K2tog, P1, repeat from * ending last repeat, K1.

Row 8: *K 1, P9, repeat from * to last stitch. K1.

Row 9: K1, *slip 1, K1. psso. K7. P1, repeat from * ending last repeat, K1.

Row 10: *K 1, P8, repeat from * to last stitch, K1.

Row 11: K1, *K6, K2tog. P1, repeat from * ending last repeat. K1.

Row 12: *Kl, P7, repeat from * to last stitch, K1.

Row 13: K1, *slip 1, K1, psso, K5, P1, repeat from * ending last repeat, K1.

Row 14: *K1. P6, repeat from * to last stitch, K1.

Row 15: K1, *K4, K2tog, P1, repeat from * ending last repeat. K1.

Row 16: *K1, P5, repeat from * to last stitch, K1.

Row 17: Kl, *slip 1, K1, psso, K3. P1, repeat from * ending last repeat, K 1.

Row 18: *K1, P4, repeat from * to last stitch, K1.

Row 19: K1, *K2, K2tog, P1, repeat from * ending last repeat. K1.

Next row: (Wrong side) knit.

Next row: Kl, *yf, K2tog, repeat from * to end.

Next row: Knit.

Work 6 rows stocking stitch, beginning with a knit row.

Next row: Cast on 3 stitches, knit into backs of first 4 stitches, knit to end.

Next row: Cast on 3 stitches, knit into backs of first 2 stitches, purl into backs of next 2 stitches. Purl to last 2 stitches, K2**.

Keeping sleeve borders of 2 K stitches correct, work 6 rows stocking stitch. Cast off (not tightly).

FRONT

Work exactly as for back to **, then keeping sleeve borders correct as for back, work 5 rows stocking stitch.

Next row: K2, P6, wool twice around needle, P11, wool twice around needle, P6, K2.

Cast off on next row as follows:

Cast off 8 stitches, cast off 2 stitches from wool twice around

needle on previous row (into back of 2nd).

Cast off next 11 stitches loosely, cast off 2 stitches from wool twice around needle (as before). Cast off remaining stitches.

MAKING UP

Join side seams neatly on strong side. Beginning at sleeve edge, join shoulder seams to approximately midway between buttonholes and outer edges, leaving an opening big enough to draw dress over doll’s head. Sew on buttons.

CORDS FOR WAIST

Using crochet hook, make 4 chain. Work 3 treble into first of these chain, followed by 3 chain 1 slip stitch into same hole. Work sufficient chain to go around waist of doll and tie in a bow.

Break wool, leaving sufficient end to make 2nd bobble and draw end through remaining loop. Thread this end through a bodkin or darning needle and slot cord through holes at waist (beginning a little off centre at front).

2nd bobble: Insert hook into last chain and draw wool through to form a loop. Work 3 chain, 3 treble,

3 chain and one slip stitch into same hole.

Draw end of wool through remaining loop, secure with a back stitch and darn in end neatly. Neaten first bobble in same manner.

Press all seams on wrong side. Press remainder of dress in same way.

PANTIES

Using No 12 needles and thumb method, cast on 21 stitches.

Row 1: K1,*P1. K1, repeat from * to end.

Row 2: K2, *P1, K1, repeat from * to last Stitch, K1.

Repeat last 2 rows once. Repeat first row.

Change to No 11 needles.

Row 1: Knit.

Row 2: K1, purl to last stitch. K1.

Rep last 2 rows once. Repeat first row.

Row 6: K2, purl to last stitch, K2.

Row 7: K2, slip 1, K1, psso, knit to last 4 stitches, K2tog, K2.

Row 8: K2, P2tog, purl to last 4 stitches. P2togtbl, K2.

Repeat these 2 rows until 7 stitches remain, then keeping borders of 2 knit stitches correct, work 7 rows without shaping.

Next row: K2, knit twice into each of next 2 stitches, K3.

Next row: K2, purl twice into next stitch, P2, P twice into next stitch, P1, K2.

Continue increasing in this way, into 3rd stitch and 4th stitch from end of every row until 21 stitches again on needle.

Next row: K2, purl to last 2 stitches. K2.

Next row: Knit.

Next row: K1, purl to last stitch, K1.

Repeat last 2 rows twice.

Change to No 12 needles and work 5 rows single rib as at beginning.

Cast off in rib on wrong side of work.

Beginning at waist edge, join side seams as far as and including first garter stitch ridge.

Press as for dress and thread elastic through waist ribbing.

STOLE

Using No 11 needles, cast on 14 stitches and knit 2 rows.

Row 1: K2, *K2togtbl, yf, K1, yf. K2tog, repeat from * K2.

Row 2: K2, purl to last 2 stitches, K2.

Row 3: Knit.

Row 4: As second.

These four rows form one complete pattern.

Repeat them 21 times.

Repeat first pattern row.

Knit 2 rows then cast off knitwise on wrong side of work.

Press as for dress.

OUTFIT FOR 10-12 INCH DOLLS

MATERIALS

1 once 4 ply wool

One pair knitting needles No 8/4.00mm/US 6

One pair knitting needles No 9/3.75mm/US 5

One crochet hook No 15/2.00mm is close

Two very small buttons

A short length of shirring or bead elastic

Tension: 6 stitches to one inch, working in stocking stitch on No 8 needles.

DRESS

Using No 8 needles throughout, work as for smallest size dress, but working 2 extra rows stocking stitch after point marked ** i.e. 8 rows instead of 6 for back, and 7 rows instead of 5 for Front.

Finish as for smallest size dress.

PANTIES

Using No 9 needles for waist ribbing and No 8 for main parts, work as for smallest size panties.

STOLE

Using No 8 needles throughout, work as for smallest size stole.

OUTFIT FOR 14-16 INCH DOLLS

MATERIALS

2 ounces Double knitting wool or 1 once for dress and 1 once for matching stole, panties and waist cord

One pair knitting needles No 5/5.50mm/US 9

One pair knitting needles No 7/4.50mm/US 7

One crochet hook No 15

2 doll buttons and a short length of shirring or bead elastic

Tension: 4½ stitches to one inch, working in stocking stitch on No 5 needles.

DRESS

Using No 5 needles throughout, work as for smallest size dress, but working 2 extra rows stocking stitch after points marked **i.e. 8 rows instead of 6 for back and 7 rows instead of 5 for front.

Finish as for smallest size dress.

PANTIES

Using No 7 needles for waist ribbing and No 5 for main parts, work as for smallest size panties.

THE STOLE

Using No 5 needles throughout, work as for smallest size stole.
