MATERIALS

Vest: 1 oz. 2 ply Nursery Knitting Yarn in Snow

Pilch: 1 oz. 2 ply Nursery Knitting Yarn in Snow

1 medium sized crochet hook

Knitting Needles 3.25mm /US 3 /UK 10 and 2.75 mm/UK 12/ US 2

Patons Fairytale Dreamtime 4 Ply Baby Smiles 100% Wool, 25g 4-Ply. Shown in Pale Blue.

VEST

Cast on 58 sts. and work K. 1, P. 1 rib for 6 inches.

Shape Armholes: Cast off 3 sts. At beginning of next 2 rows.

Take 2 tog. at each end of every alternate row until 48 sts. remain.

Continue in rib on 48 sts. until armholes measure 1 ¾ inches, measured straight up.

Shape neck: Rib 9, cast off 30 sts. rib 9.

Work in rib on last 9 sts. for 2½ inches, ending at armhole edge.

Break off yarn and leave these sts. on a spare needle.

Join in yarn at centre to remaining sts. And work 2½ inches in rib, ending at neck edge. Cast on 30 sts. at end of last row, then on the same pin work in rib across the 9 sts. that were left on spare pin (48 sts.)

Continue in rib until work measures 1¼ inches from the 30 cast on sts.

Increase 1 st. at each end of every alternate row until 52 sts. are on needle.

Cast on 3 sts. at end of next 2 rows. Continue on 58 sts. in rib for 6 inches.

Cast off loosely in rib.

TO MAKE UP

Press work carefully on wrong side with a warm iron.

Sew up side seams.

Work 1 row of d.c. round the neck and armholes, working 1 d.c. into each st. of knitting, working a 2nd row round the neck opening, making holes for the cord thus:

* 2 ch., 1 tr. in 2nd st. from hook. * Repeat * to * all round. Work 1 round of d.c.

Using the wool double, crochet a chain cord and thread through the holes at neck. Attach a small tassel to each end.

Press all seams.

PILCH (Panties)

Cast on 68 sts. on No. 12 needles.

Work in K. 1. P. 1. rib for 4 rows.

Next row: Make holes for cord thus: *Rib 2, M. 1, P. 2 tog. * repeat * to * to end.

Work 6 more rows in rib.

Change to no. 10 needles and continue in st.st. until work measures 6 inches from cast on.

Shape legs: Cast off 29 sts. at beginning of next 2 rows.

Continue in st.st. on remaining 10 sts. For 10 rows for gusset.

Cast on 29 sts. at end of next 2 rows.

Continue in st.st. without shaping for 5 inches.

Change to No. 12 needles and work 6 rows in K. 1. P. 1. rib.

Next row: Make holes for cord * K. 2, M.1, K. 2 tog. * repeat * to* to end.

Work 4 rows in rib. Cast off loosely in rib.

LEG BANDS

With right side of work facing, pick up and K. 29 sts. along the one side of leg

opening, 10 sts. along the side of gusset and 29 sts. cast on along the other side (68sts)

Work K. 1, P. 1 rib for 4 rows. Cast off in rib.

Work round the other leg opening in same way.

TO MAKE UP

Press work carefully on wrong side with warm iron. Sew up side seams. Using

yarn double, crochet a cord of chains and thread through holes at waist. Attach a small tassel to each end of cord.

ALMONDINE COAT 

MATERIALS

 3 ozs 3 ply Nursery Knitting Yarn in Baby Sky

4 buttons

1 pair knitting needles 3.25mm /US 3 /UK 10

SUGGESTED YARN

LB Collections Superwash Merino 100% wool. Shown in Persimmon.

 

MEASUREMENTS

Length, shoulder to hem, 12 ½ inches. Width all round at underarm, 16 ½ inches. Sleeve seam (cuff turned back), 4 ½ inches.

TENSION

 7 ½ sts. to 1 inch

Measure your doll for fit and style fullness. Check gauge on chosen wool and needles.

ABBREVIATIONS

K. = knit; P. = purl; st. = stitch; st.st. = stocking stitch; tog. = together; yn. fwd. = yarn forward; sl. = slip; M. = make; ch. = chain; d.c. = double crochet; tr. = treble

Note – Work into back of all cast on stitches.

RIGHT FRONT

Cast on 60 stitches.

Work in double moss st. as follows:

1st and 2nd rows: * K. 2, P. 2 * repeat * to* to end

3rd and 4th rows: * P. 2, K. 2 * repeat to * to * to end

These 4 rows form the pattern. Repeat pattern once, then work 1st and 2nd rows once.

Continue as follows:

Next row: ( P. 2, K. 2 ) twice, P. 2. Slip these 10 sts. on to a stich holder for front band.

Continue in st.st. (1 row K., 1 row P.) on remaining sts. until work measures 7½ inches from cast on, ending on a k. row.

Decrease for waist thus:

(P. 2 tog.) 22 times, P. 6 ( 28 sts.)

Continue on 28 sts. in double moss st. for 8 rows. Continue in st.st. on 28 sts. until work measures 9½ inches from cast on, ending at side edge.

Shape Armhole:

Cast off 6 sts. work to end.

Take 2 tog. at armhole edge on every row until 16 sts. remain.

Continue in st.st. on 16 sts. until armhole measures 2¼ inches, measured straight up, ending at front edge.

Shape Neck:

Cast off 4 sts. work to end.

Take 2 tog. at neck edge on every row until 8 sts. remain.

Continue on 8 sts. until armhole measures 3¼ inches, measured straight up.

Cast off.

To complete the front band. Slip the sts. left on safety pin on to a No. 10 needle. Continue in double moss st. on these 10 sts. until work measures 6½ inches from cast on, ending on wrong side.

Next 2 rows make a buttonhole thus:

Pattern 4 sts., cast off 2 sts., work in pattern to end.

Next row:

Pattern 4 sts., cast on 2 sts., pattern to end.

Continue in pattern, making 3 more buttonholes with 14 rows between each. After the last buttonhole has been made, cast off.

LEFT FRONT

Cast on 60 sts. Work to match right front, reversing front band and shapings and omitting buttonholes.

BACK

Cast on 112 sts. Work 10 rows in double moss st.

Continue in st.st. until work measures 7½ inches from cast on, ending on a k. row.

Next row:

Decrease for waist thus:  (P.

1, P. 2 tog.) 6 times, (P. 2 tog.) 38 times,

(P. 1, P. 2 tog.) 6 times ( 62 sts.)

Continue in double moss st. for 8 rows.

Continue in st.st. on 62 sts. until work measures 9½ inches from cast on.

Shape armholes:

Cast off 6 sts. at beginning of next 2 rows. Take 2 tog., at each end of every row until 38 sts. remain.

Continue in st.st. on 38 sts. until armholes measure 3¼ inches, measured straight up. Cast off.

SLEEVES

Cast on 32 sts. Work in double moss st. for 2 inches.

Continue in st.st., increasing 1 st. at each end of next and every following 4th row until 44 sts. are on pin.

Continue in st.st. on 44 sts. until work measures 5½ inches from cast on.

Cast off 6 sts. at beginning of next 2 rows. Take 2 tog. at each end of every row until 16 sts remain. Cast off.

COLLAR

Cast on 12 sts. Work in double moss st. for 4 rows.
5th row: Work in double moss st. to last 2 sts. turn and work back.

Repeat last 6 rows until the edge where the turns were made measures 8¾ inches. Cast off in pattern.

TO MAKE UP

Press work carefully on wrong side with hot iron over a damp cloth.

Sew up side, shoulder and sleeve seams. Sew sleeves into armholes. Turn back cuffs.

Sew front bands in position and sew on buttons to match buttonholes.

Sew on collar, placing the edge where the turns were made to the neck edge and the edges to the centre of front bands on each side.

Press seams.

TENSION

5½ stitches to 1 inch

ABBREVIATIONS

knit; p. purl; sts. stitches; sl.1 slip one stitch knitways; tog. together; st.st. stocking stitch (1 row knit, 1 row purl); wl. fwd. wool forward.

After casting off stitches for shaping, one stitch will remain on the right-hand needle which is not included in the instructions that follow.

Repeat the 1st row 5 times

Proceed as follows:

1st Row: SI.1, knit to end of row

2nd Row: SI.1, k.4, purl to the last 5 sts., k.5

These 2 rows form the st.st. and front borders

Repeat the 1st and 2nd rows 8 [10] [12] times

Next row: SI.1, k.1, cast off 2 sts., knit to end of row

Next row: SI.1, k.4, purl to the last 3 sts., k.1, cast on 2 sts., k.2

Repeat the 1st and 2nd rows 4 [5] [6] times **

Next row: SI.1, k.1, cast off 2 sts., knit to end of row

Proceed as follows:

1st Row: SI.1, knit to end of row

Repeat the 1st row twice

4th Row: SI.1, k.1, cast off 2 sts., * wl. fwd., k.2 tog., repeat from * to the last 5 sts., k.5

5th Row: SI.1, knit to the last 2 sts., cast on 2 sts., k.2

Repeat the 1st row twice

Keeping the continuity of the st.st. and the front borders work 4 [6] [8] rows in st.st.

Divide for the Back and Fronts.

Next row: SI.1, k.16 [19] [21], cast off 4 [4] [6] sts.. k.27 [33] [37], cast off 4 [4] [6] sts., k.16 [19] [21], turn

Working on the first 17 [20] [22] sts. only, proceed as follows:

THE LEFT FRONT

1st Row: SI.1, k.4, purl to the last St., k.1

Keeping the continuity of the st.st. and the front border (throughout) decrease once at the armhole edge in each of the next 2 [2] [4] rows. 15 [18] [18] sts

Work 11 [13] [13] rows without shaping.

Decrease once at the neck edge in each of the next 2 rows. 9 [11] [11] sts.

Work 2 [2] [4] rows in st.st. without shaping.

Cast off.

THE BACK

With the wrong side of the work facing, rejoin the wool to the first 28 [34] [38] sts. and proceed as follows:

1st Row: K.1, purl to the last st., k.1

Decrease once at each end of each of the next 2 [2] [4] rows. 24 [30] [30] sts.

Work 16 [18] [20] rows in st.st. without shaping.

Cast off.

THE RIGHT FRONT

With the wrong side of the work facing, rejoin the wool to the remaining 17 [20] [22] sts. and proceed as follows:

1st Row: K.1, purl to the last 5 sts., k.5

2nd Row: SI.1, k.1, cast off 2 sts., knit to the last 2 sts., k.2 tog

3rd Row: K.2 tog., purl to the last 3 sts., k.1, cast on 2 sts., k.2. 15 [18] [20] sts

For the 20 inch only:

Keeping the continuity of the front border decrease once at the armhole edge in each of the next 2 rows. (18 sts.)

Shape the Neck:

1st Row: Cast off 4 [5] [5] sts., knit to end of row

2nd Row: SI.1, purl to the last St., k.1

Decrease once at the neck edge in each of the next 2 rows. 9 [11] [11] sts.

Work 3 [3] [5] rows without shaping.

Cast off purlways.

THE COLLAR

Using the No. 7 needles cast on 40 [42] [44] sts.

1st Row: SI.1, knit to end of row

Repeat the 1st row 12 times.

Cast off.

THE SLEEVES (Both alike)

Using the No. 9 needles cast on 19 [22] [25] sts.

1st Row: SI.1, knit to end of row

Repeat the 1st row 10 times.

Change to No. 7 needles and proceed as follows:

1st Row: SI.1, knit to end of row

2nd Row: SI.1, purl to the last st., k.1

Continue in st.st. increasing once at each end of the next and every following 6th row until there are 25 [30] [33] sts. on the needle.

(It is advisable to check the length of the doll’s arm before proceeding as they vary considerably; then proceed for the required length or as follows:)

Continue without shaping until the work measures 4 [5] [6] inches from the com­mencement, ending on the wrong side of the work.

SHAPE THE TOP

Cast off 2 sts. at the beginning of each of the next 4 [4] [4] rows.

Cast off 1 st. at the beginning of each of the next 10 [14 [18] rows.

Cast off the remaining 7 [8] [7].

 TO MAKE UP THE DRESSING GOWN

Press each piece separately on the wrong side under a damp cloth with a hot iron.

Sew up the shoulder and sleeve seams. Placing the sleeve seam to the centre of the cast off sts. at the armhole, sew the sleeve in position. With the right side of the collar to the wrong side of the work and the ends of the collar 3 sts. in from the front edge, sew the cast off edge to the neck.

Sew on buttons to correspond with the buttonholes.

Using 4 strands of wool make a twisted cord 36 inches long and thread through the holes at the waist. Attach a tassel to each end of the cord.

Press all seams. Turn back the cuffs.
