Weldons Knitted Doll ~ Lace Layette Free Knitting Pattern

Knit these enchanting doll’s clothes and the doll herself. Instructions are given for a long or short dress and petticoat.

MATERIALS

1oz Bairns-Wear Lambs Wool 3ply in pink for the doll

6ozs Bairns-Wear Shetland wool 2ply in white for the set with long dress and petticoat, or 4ozs for set with short dress and petticoat

½ oz ball of Patons Fuzzy Wuzzy Angora for bonnet

1 pair each of No. UK 8/US 6/Metric 4mm, No. UK 10/US 3/Metric 3.25mm and No. UK 12/US 2/Metric 2 knitting needles

Medium size crochet hook

4 yards of narrow ribbon

3 yards narrow lace

4 small buttons

Oddments of embroidery silk

Wadding for stuffing doll

Weldons Bed Mitts Free Knitting Pattern

Ideal gift for a friend who likes to knit or read in bed.

MATERIALS

1oz Bairns-Wear Superfine 2ply wool

1 pair UK 13/US 1/Metric 2.25mm  Knitting Needles

TENSION

10 stitches and 14 rows to 1 inch

MEASUREMENTS

All round hand above thumb division 5 ½ inches. Overall length 6 ¾ inches.

Cast on 56 stitches and work in K1, p1 rib. Now work 8 rows in stocking stitch, then increase for thumb and gusset thus:

1st increase row: K25, increase in next stitch, K4, increase in next stitch, K25. Work 3 rows straight.

5th Row: K25, increase in next stitch, K6, increase in next stitch, K25. Work 3 rows straight.

Continue in this way, increasing 2 stitches on next row and every following 4th row until there are 72 stitches, noting that you should work 2 more stitches between the increases than in preceding increase row.

Next row: K47, turn, slipping remaining 25 stitches on to a piece of thread.

The Thumb: 1st row: Cast on 3, p25, turn, slipping remaining 25 stitches on to another piece of thread.

2nd row: Cast on 3, knit 28. Work 11 rows in stocking stitch on these 28 stitches, then work 8 rows in k1, p1 rib. Cast off ribwise. Join thumb seam. With right side of work facing you, join on wool and pick up and knit 6 stitches from those cast-on at base of thumb, then knit the 25 stitches from left-hand thread.

Next row: P31, then purl the 25 stitches from other thread. Work 22 rows straight on these 56 stitches, then 8 rows in k1, p1 rib. Cast off ribwise.Press work. Join seam. Make anther mitt to match.
